人妻乱伦 DC is proud to celebrate the contributions of our parents in the 人妻乱伦 with the 人妻乱伦 DC Parents of Purpose spotlight. This month we鈥檙e spotlighting Ms. Tyrina Hinkle, a longtime member of the 人妻乱伦 DC family and parent of a 人妻乱伦ster at 人妻乱伦 DC College Preparatory.
Ms. Hinkle has been a 人妻乱伦 DC parent since the opening of our Benning Campus in 2008. She鈥檚 a founding member of 人妻乱伦 DC KEY Academy鈥檚 人妻乱伦 Parent Organization (KPO) and currently serves as interim president of 人妻乱伦 DC College Preparatory鈥檚 KPO. Parent Organizations across 人妻乱伦 DC are vital parts of our school communities and see parents and teacher leaders working together to impact student outcomes positively.
鈥淣ot only do the KPOs offer an outlet for a parent鈥檚 voice, but they are an outlet for parents to support one another,鈥� she said. 鈥淲hether that鈥檚 finding another parent with advice on a similar situation that you鈥檙e in, or collectively as a group advocating for things we want to see.鈥�
Much of Ms. Hinkle鈥檚 inspiration for her involvement in 人妻乱伦 DC College Preparatory鈥檚 campus 人妻乱伦 stems from her son, who himself is extremely active as both a member of the track team and student government treasurer. 鈥淚t鈥檚 not enough for me to expect of him to be involved or tell him he has to do these things. I want him to see the things I鈥檓 doing and be able to take it even further.鈥�
Currently, a major focus for Ms. Hinkle and the 人妻乱伦 DC College Preparatory KPO is encouraging positive social media habits for students and finding ways to educate parents on how students can use the platforms responsibly. She鈥檚 also an inaugural member of 人妻乱伦 DC鈥檚 Parent Advisory Board, which is a group of 25 parents from across each of our campuses who meet regularly to provide input on new and existing 人妻乱伦 DC policies, projects, and outreach to collaboratively support the students and families of our communities.
鈥淭he Parent Advisory Board was something I wanted to carve time out to participate in because it takes what we discuss in our individual KPO meetings to another level. Instead of helping enact change at your school, we鈥檙e helping amplify the voice of parents across 人妻乱伦 DC.鈥�
When Ms. Hinkle isn鈥檛 on campus or volunteering, she鈥檚 an active member of her church鈥檚 administration and loves discovering new restaurants across the city. As an active member of 人妻乱伦 DC College Preparatory鈥檚 campus 人妻乱伦 and parent leader, she鈥檚 January鈥檚 Parent Spotlight!
